The Pittsburgh Steelers wish they were playing in Super Bowl 50, but instead will have to watch like 30 other NFL teams. Pittsburgh is one of the most storied and historic franchise in all of professional sports, and one of the most successful.

Two of the Steelers Super Bowl records were potentially on the line with today’s AFC championship game. Going into today, the Steelers, along with the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys with eight trips to the Super Bowl. Had the Patriots won today, that would have given them nine, and put them alone at the top of the list.

However, the Broncos were able to eek out a narrow win. And with that win, add their name to the list with their eighth trip to the Super Bowl as well. So next year, should any of these teams make it, there will be a new leader atop the franchise list for most trips to the big game.

By the Patriots losing today, they were also denied the opportunity to set another Super Bowl mark. Currently, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady have four Super Bowl wins together. This ties former Steelers head coach Chuck Noll and quarterback Terry Bradshaw. So for one more year, both of the Steelers marks remain intact.
